Job Description

Motorola is actively seeking a Taxonomy & Internal Search Analyst to work with diverse stakeholders in managing the development and maintenance of their global Enterprise Content Management taxonomy. The Taxonomy & Internal Search Analyst will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and evolution of the taxonomy, as well as taxonomy documentation, communication, and education. 
This role also entails the analysis of user behaviours associated with our Internal Search tools on www.motorola.com and drive changes to the internal search configurations to meet the users’ needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in close cooperation with stakeholders to develop new taxonomy structures and evaluate change requests, ensuring development follows guidelines, best practices and supports the overall web strategy
  • Manage the Taxonomy Governance Team and governance standard operating procedures
  • Conduct tracking, reporting and resolution of all taxonomy issues
  • Develop and maintain taxonomy documentation, including change logs, standards and guidelines, forms, etc.
  • Develop and deliver training on taxonomy use and best practices
  • Perform periodic competitive analyses and reviews of the taxonomy
  • Work with the Internal Search tools, and Integrated Search team to perform internal search keyword research and analysis of search logs/web metrics to ensure the optimal performance of the taxonomy and web content.
  • Participate in and develop initiatives to best leverage the taxonomy and improve the customer web experience
  • Champion and influence the use of taxonomy across the organization

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Library Science, Information Management or related field required (Masters preferred), or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years related work experience, including direct experience with taxonomy/metadata/thesaurus design and Search, preferably for large customer-facing website

Skills/competencies

  • Appropriate skills using office systems and software (Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Expertise in taxonomy, Internal Search,  and information architecture
  • Solid understanding of and experience with search and content management technologies. Knowledge of the Vignette CMS is ideal.
  • Knowledge of usability, user testing, web analytics and competitive analysis
  • Demonstrated communication and consensus building skills in a team environment, including the ability to:
    • listen and identify requirements and issues
    • communicate complex ideas
    • influence/persuade others
    • set expectations
  • Ability to think analytically and understand key issues, balancing the requirements of the larger strategy with the specific details of the current situation
  • Strong project and time management skills, ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and tasks with a high level of service
  • Capability to create and maintain documentation, including process and training documentation
  • Ability think creatively, generate innovative ideas and transform them into practical solutions
  • Ability to promote ideas with enthusiasm
