Wendy Pohs has been in textual information delivery in the software industry for almost 20 years. After receiving her Master's Degree in library and information science from the University of Michigan, she began her career at the American Mathematical Society writing Cobol programs to support a new system for displaying mathematical formulas online. She later joined the Digital Equipment Corporation and helped develop a competitive intelligence retrieval system successfully used for years by the Digital sales force.
Wendy joined Lotus Development Corporation just as the Web was taking off. The proliferation of unstructured information generated by collaborative computing, electronic mail systems, and newsgroups emphasized the need for both software tools and a professional background geared toward meaningful organization of text. Wendy was asked to join the Knowledge Discovery System development team as resident "cybrarian".
