Content Workflow Design: How much is too much?
One of the major benefits of using a content management system (CMS) for DITA content is the ability to design the workflow support to meet the needs of your team. However, this means that you must determine what you team really needs. The goal is to find the balance between supporting the content stakeholders and controlling the content changes to reduce risk and costs. To help you find this balance, you must consider the following questions:
- Where does your content really start and who owns it?
- How many stakeholder roles do you have and what support does each stakeholder role need?
- How much control do you need over content changes?
- Who owns the responsibility for changing each workflow state?
- What metrics do you need to capture about the content states in the content development process?
- What point is appropriate for sending content to localization?
