Taxonomy Made Easy: An Introduction to Taxonomies for the Accidental Taxonomist

The growing interest in taxonomies may result in librarians, especially solo corporate librarians, being asked to create or manage taxonomies, even if they had not done that work before. Thus we have the accidental taxonomist. This presentation gives an introduction to taxonomies, controlled vocabularies and thesauri, for those who are new to the field. Different types and applications of taxonomies, the basic structure of how to create a taxonomy, best practices for creating terms and relationships, and available taxonomy tools will be covered.
