One of the most common content management tools available today is SharePoint. SharePoint 2010 has extended the capability of organizations to leverage taxonomy and metadata for findability. Nevertheless, many organizations struggle with making SharePoint search effective.

This session addresses the impact of taxonomy and information architecture on enabling effective search. Speakers will address best practice approaches and methodologies. We also look at third party tools that enable more effective search and contextualization of SharePoint content.

Jeff Carr

Business Productivity Technology Solutions Professional (TSP) , Microsoft

Jeff Carr is a Business Productivity Technology Solutions Professional with Microsoft. He is responsible for working with customers across Western Canada to ensure business value for investment across SharePoint, Microsoft Office and Fast Search.

With over 10 years’ experience in technology and information management, he has developed a strong multi-disciplinary foundation across taxonomy, metadata, information architecture, content management and search. Hespecializes in user-centered information design by employing a holistic approach to problem solving and has been responsible for the strategy, development, and implementation of numerous successful initiatives both large and smalland across a wide range of industries.

In addition to working as a practitioner, Jeff is both an author and presenter. He has written articles on SharePoint for AIIM’s Digital Landfill blog, KMWorld Magazine, the American Society for Information Systems and Technology, CMSWire, EndUserSharePoint, and NothingButSharePoint. Jeff has presented on webinars hosted by the Taxonomy Community of Practice, Axceler, and the Content Wrangler, and has spoken at numerous conferences including SharePoint Best Practices, Intelligent Content, Taxonomy Boot Camp, and the Special Libraries Association.

Martin Muldoon

Director of Product Marketing , BA Insight

Martin Muldoon is the Director of Product Marketing at BA Insight, where he leads company’s product marketing strategy worldwide. As a co-founder of BA Insight, Martin has extensive experience in the Enterprise Search space with a particular focus on Microsoft Search technologies. Prior to that, while working at Suez, a global power utility company, Martin was awarded the Suez Innovation Award for the search based application he developed for company’s Environmental division.

Martin is a frequent speaker in the community and shares his extensive expertise in enterprise search technologies at various key conferences including TechEd, KM World, AIIM and others. Martin also spent a few years as an independent consultant leading deployment of various ERP systems. The firsthand experience of seeing users struggle accessing information from ERP, CRM, and messaging systems was the inspiration behind BA-Insight’s unique approach to integrated search on top of FAST and SharePoint Search.

Seth Earley

CEO , Earley & Associates

Seth has been implementing content management and knowledge management projects for over 18 years and has been in the technology field for 25 + years. He is founder of the Boston Knowledge Management Forum and is a Master Trainer for the AIIM Information Organization and Access Course. He is also course co-developer and instructor for SharePoint Information Architecture course taught throughout N America and Europe. He is former adjunct professor at Northeastern University, where he taught graduate courses in Knowledge Management Infrastructure and E Business Strategy. He was 2009 Co-Chair of the Metadata Committee, NDIIPP Education and Outreach for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
